A ANCHOR

About ANCHOR, & how a dispatch gets filed

Parchment82 began from a simple idea: a web directory organised the way a well-run print shop organises its type. Every site in the catalogue is placed into a named section — a galley, a forme, an imprint — and held there in order, ready to be browsed at any time. The catalogue covers 22 sections and 829 listed websites. Sections range from large, busy galleys like the Wager and Table Forme, which holds 117 entries, and the General Galleys with 189 entries, to compact specialist sections like the Deed and Seal Forme and the Property Imprint. The range is intentional: a directory that covers only popular categories is like a print shop that stocks only common typefaces. Every listing in Parchment82 has been reviewed before it was set into type. The submission process is open to any site — there is no charge to submit — and each submission is checked before it appears in the catalogue. The aim is a clean impression: no broken entries, no duplicate slugs, no mislabelled sections. The name Parchment82 refers to the material on which type was traditionally impressed before paper became the standard — a durable surface that takes ink well and holds its form over time. The directory takes the same approach: structured, durable, and legible without being cluttered. If you operate a website and would like it included, use the submission form. A review will follow, and if the listing is approved, it will be typeset into the appropriate section and added to the running catalogue.
